My story

Contradictary sides within humans

Min Bae 2016. 12. 16. 19:58

The human is weak.

He is particularly weak at controlling his emotions.

The human cannot resist against the power of emotion.

No one can win in that fight.

The fight that there is no chance to win is best not to begin.

But it is true that there are some times in life when we cannot but regret after losing the battle.

Astonishingly, most of humans, nevertheless, tend to think that they can win the fight, and begin to enter the fight ring with a firm belief or confidence.

However, no matter how logical or wise you are, you can hardly maintain yourself intact once you begin overwhelmed by your emotions.

You will quickly lose the control over your emotions in the fight, and there is nothing you can do.

For your emotions become a monster and they do not stop before outer measures intervene.

The fights that the human is to confront are diverse.

The fight can be over eating, the Internet, relationship, politics, or anything else.

If the human is strong enough to tightly hold his control over emotion, then such tangible or intangible substances can scarcely make him ruin things.

The reality is that the human falls victim to, and becomes an addict to, those things all the time.

Indeed, the human is not logical being at all.

On the contrary, he is rather too emotional.

The human is likely to do a certain thing that surely will lead him to regret shortly after having done that.

For individuals, that is why we need to keep routines in daily life, since we know that we are very often irresponsible even for ourselves and for our lives.

For society, that is why we need law, since without law there is no way to check our rush to unreasonable conclusions and consequent tragedies.

Self-responsibility and introspection are the most essential elements in establishing human morality.

For these are the tools that mirror such imperfect human dispositions in ourselves from both the inward perspective and outward perspective

We have emotion and reason, which of course cannot be extracted separately.

We are just a mixture of the two extremes.

Therefore we get distracted, cheated and addicted all the time.

That is why we sometimes try enthusiastically to reach others while other times we try to confront ourselves as we are.

The human is a creature that has evolved to use both individualist and collectivist strategies for survival and happiness.

All the problems we have begin to be solved only when we can truly look at what kinds of creatures we are.
